About me

Hi, I’m Helen.

I’m  a freelance educational author and consultant with a background in primary teaching. Originally from the UK, I emigrated to New Zealand in 2005.

By day I write non-fiction for children, but by night I write fiction and poetry for adults. This site is a dumping ground for my nocturnal jottings.

I do do other things apart from writing — yoga, for example. So far I haven’t attempted to combine the two, although I’m not ruling out the possibility, and I may attempt to write my next poem while in headstand. I like to keep up the pretence of being creative, so I dabble in photography and crafts. Oh, and I’m potty about cats.

My husband Iain and I are currently in the process of building a house out in the country, doing almost all of the work ourselves. It’s a lot more fun than it sounds.
